The GIANTS are pleased to announce that Jason McCartney has been appointed to the position of List Manager.
McCartney comes to the GIANTS after six years at the Western Bulldogs where he played a key role in shaping the playing group that won the 2016 AFL Premiership.
As a player, McCartney played 182 games for Collingwood, Adelaide and North Melbourne in a distinguished career over 13 seasons.
After retiring in 2003, McCartney has held a variety of roles throughout the league including AFL youth and high performance co-ordinator, high performance coach of the AIS/AFL program and development coach at Fremantle.
In his role at the AIS/AFL Academy, McCartney coached a number of players who’ve go on to form the nucleus of the GIANTS’ side including Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron, Jon Patton, Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield.
GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said the appointment was an important step in the club’s ongoing recruiting and list management strategy.
“Jason has a proven track record as one of the most highly regarded football administrators in the AFL and we’re delighted he’s joining the club,” said Campbell.
“Jason’s strength is in list management and we feel he will compliment Adrian Caruso and his recruiting team.
“His work in managing the Western Bulldogs’ list and TPP, culminating in the 2016 Premiership, has been outstanding and we feel he will be a perfect addition to the GIANTS' football department."
McCartney will commence his role at the GIANTS in the new year.
