As the GIANTS get set to experience Friday night footy in Melbourne for the first time, we take a look at all the news out of the Saints camp this week.
St Kilda had an important win over the Hawks in Tasmania on Saturday afternoon with star Leigh Montagna telling Fairfax Media it was nice for the club to be back in the spotlight come round 7.
"That feeling of being relevant again, getting Friday night games, being spoken about with expectation, it creates a bit of a buzz," said Montagna.
"It creates pressure but a welcome pressure where you need to start performing and there's no bigger stage than Friday night footy."
The Saints are ninth of the AFL ladder and come up against the second-placed GIANTS. Though their position doesn’t necessarily reflect it, St Kilda have had a good start to the season, beating Brisbane, Collingwood and Hawthorn.
They were also right in the contests against Melbourne, West Coast and Geelong before being overrun in the end.
"We're starting to get a nice blend," Montagna said.
"Our forward line is working well and complementing each other. Our back line is really settled and our midfield is finding out ways to bring new guys into the mix.
"We're finally starting to gel with this group.
"We've been through the rebuild – that's been well-documented – and we've now got a lot of blokes that have played 20-60 games together."
St Kilda could be in line to recall former number one pick Paddy McCartin following their VFL affiliate Sandringham’s 20-point win over Collingwood.
The club’s official website said McCartin was the clear standout with seven goals, ten marks and 18 disposals and declared he was pushing his case for an AFL recall.
Nathan Wright was another to earn praise from VFL coach Lindsay Gilbee, amassing 25 disposals and a team-high nine tackles.
Luke Dunstan was strong through the midfield while Jack Lonie also impressed with two goals, seven tackles and 25 disposals.
Defender Brandon White was solid in the back half intercepting Collingwood forward thrusts and the run of Shane Savage was influential, finishing with a game-high 29 disposals.
The GIANTS head to Melbourne to take on St Kilda on Friday night at 7:50pm with both sides to name their team on Thursday evening at 6.25pm.
