Dashing defender Zac Williams has signed a contract extension that will see the GIANTS Academy product remain at the club until at least the end of 2020.
The three-year contract extension was announced in Williams’ home town of Narrandera ahead of the GIANTS’ first JLT Community Series match against West Coast on Saturday.
The 22-year old third-round selection in the 2013 Rookie Draft said he was delighted to make a long-term commitment to the GIANTS.
“I’m really settled here at the GIANTS and couldn’t be happier to know that this is where I’ll be playing for the next few years,” said Williams.
“The GIANTS gave me an opportunity as an 18-year old and I feel at home playing here.
“We have a really close knit playing group who are driving each other to continue to improve.”
Since joining the GIANTS via the 2013 Rookie Draft at pick 55, Williams has played 53 games for the club.
2016 was a breakout year for Williams, playing 22 games and developing into one of the most damaging rebounding defenders in the AFL.
GIANTS General Manager Football Wayne Campbell said William’s contract extension is a significant one for the club.
”Zac's a great example of the talent that is being developed in NSW through the Academy system and we’re delighted he’s re-committed,” said Campbell.
“He’s made huge improvements in recent seasons and we see Zac as a key member of our team for the years to come.
“We’ve developed a strong culture at the GIANTS, a culture the players have bought into and Zac’s re-signing is a strong endorsement of this.”
