After leading global travel authority Lonely Planet named Canberra one of the world’s Top 10 Cities for next year, we've listed some of our favourite things to do (and not just the footy!) in the nation’s capital.

Culture
There’s no better way to get a dose of culture than at the National Museum of Australia or one of the many other museums or galleries that this city is known for. Whether it’s a local favourite or an internally acclaimed artist you’re after, Canberra has an abundance of museums and galleries that will take your breath away.
National Zoo and Aquarium
Retired ruckman Shane Mumford has tamed plenty of wild animals out on the footy field over the years but even he got a shock from how close he got up to the White Lions at the National Zoo. And if you think Rory Lobb is big - wait until you see the Giraffes. You can even stay the night if you wish.
Australian War Memorial
No visit to Canberra is complete without a visit to the Australian War Memorial to pay your respects to those who have fought for our country through the decades. Anzac Day at this national treasure is always a sight to behold with thousands of people turning out for the moving dawn service.
Parliament House
The political heartbeat of our country has pride of place up on the hill in Canberra. The corridors of power are home to the most influential people in our country as well as many visiting dignitaries from around the world. Who knows, we could see some of our switched-on players like Phil Davis trade in his boots for a suit one day and end up here…
Questacon
This is the ultimate playground for kids of all ages. It has over 200 interactive exhibits relating to science and technology and is all about making the experience fun for the whole family. Put aside a few hours as the time will fly by in here.
Cafes and Bars
Canberra has developed a reputation as having some of the finest bars and restaurants in Australia. Whether it be fine dining, a late night drink at Mooseheads or a dessert to die for at Patissez - Canberra has your post-game celebrations covered.
Members and Fans
The GIANTS have built a strong legion of fans in the ACT with more and more orange on display every day. Every chance the GIANTS players get, they’re out and about meeting these loyal fans and popular players like star forward Jeremy Cameron is never short of someone to take a photo with.
Great from all Angles
As Heath Shaw and Ryan Griffen found out first hand, Canberra looks good from all angles. A helicopter ride or hot air balloon is a great way to see the city and the surrounding areas from above including the well-known landmarks of Canberra, the nearby National Parks and the South Coast of NSW.
UNSW Canberra Oval
With sell-out crowds and six wins in a row at UNSW Canberra Oval, no wonder the GIANTS love playing here. The 2018 AFL and AFLW fixtures will be released in the coming days and there’s sure to be plenty of exciting footy action at UNSW Canberra Oval next year. The Oval will also host its first-ever test match in the summer of 2018/19.
Outdoors
Yes it can get chilly at times, but the ACT has one of the best climates in Australia for outdoor activities. Whether it be playing a round of golf, hitting the mountain bike tracks or hiking up Mount Ainslie - there’s something for everyone in Canberra.
Notable mentions
As is the way with all lists, there is some unlucky contenders to miss out. We couldn’t talk about Canberra without mentioning Skyfire, Floriade or our mates at the Brumbies and Raiders. They all play a big part in making Canberra great!
