It's not often a coach is disappointed after a 10-goal win which launches their side into top spot.
But Leon Cameron was far from happy with the GIANTS' final quarter against the Brisbane Lions, saying concentration was an issue for his star team.
"For three quarters we were good, we were definitely the better team, but we were really, really ordinary in the last quarter," Cameron said.
"Concentration – not fatigue, it's concentration – and probably just some players getting ahead of themselves."
"You've got a side that's one down - their captain, their superstar – [and] Sam Reid did an outstanding job on Zorko, so their two biggest prime movers, and they kicked five goals to three in the last quarter."
Lions captain Dayne Beams suffered a shoulder injury in the opening minutes of the match after a heavy collision with Shane Mumford, while Dayne Zorko was well held by Sam Reid, giving the GIANTS a massive advantage in the midfield.
"Momentum is a clear thing, Brisbane got some momentum and scored goals in the space of seven or eight minutes.
"I know you're not going to get everything our own way, but the set of circumstances of having their captain down, Zorko obviously not playing his best game and the form he's been in the last month; we had a side on the ropes and you let them take up the initiative? That's what we did."
Usual forward Reid completely shut Zorko out of the game, but Cameron said if injured midfielder Josh Kelly had played, they may not have even tagged the star Lion.
"It opened our eyes, what he did. He was really disciplined, he's got leg speed, he's got endurance and he can play different parts of the ground. But I think you need to pick and choose when you can use it and when you can't.
"I thought the guys helped Sam, but there's no doubt his application to get the job done was first class."
With the GIANTS still in first place despite a horrific injury list, Cameron's forecast that Josh Kelly and Rory Lobb could return for next week's big clash against Geelong will send shudders through the competition.
Kelly withdrew from the team on Friday after failing to recover from a hip knock suffered during training, while Lobb has missed the past month with a groin injury.
"It was a real positive that Rory Lobb got through his controlled game time today (in the NEAFL) after five weeks out with his groin. There's no doubt he'll be putting his hand up for next week, which gives us more flexibility to play Mummy (Mumford) forward.
"We actually like playing Mummy forward at times, he gives a great contest, so hopefully over the coming weeks that second ruck will be shared with Rory and Jon (Patton) as well."
Cameron said draftee Tim Taranto had several corkies on his shin, but will hopefully be fit for next week.
