A noticeable absentee at training on Wednesday but three GIANTS hit the track in a bid to prove their fitness for Saturday night’s blockbuster Sydney Derby.
Jeremy Cameron failed to train on Wednesday but he's in no danger of missing Saturday night's match against the Swans.
Cameron took to the track with the rest of his teammates at Spotless Stadium, but headed straight for the rehab group to do some running alongside injured teammates Brett Deledio (calf), Jacob Hopper (ankle) and Tim Mohr (calf).
The 24-year-old had a brief consultation with club medicos over what looked to be an issue with his right leg, then walked a couple of laps with veteran Ryan Griffen, who is out with a long-term ankle injury.
After a brief chat with coach Leon Cameron, the Coleman Medal contender left the track, but didn't seemed overly concerned with his niggle, and is likely to extend himself more at Friday's session.
GIANTS officials told AFL.com.au that the goalkicker is battling some soreness after last week's draw with Hawthorn, but is certain to line up in the 13th Sydney derby.
Utility Sam Reid (ankle) also missed the session and could be in doubt for the Sydney clash.
Injured trio Toby Greene (ankle), Steve Johnson (knee) and Zac Williams (hamstring) all trained strongly in the hour-long session.
All three appear certain to return against the Swans if they pull up well on Thursday, and would be important inclusions against an in-form Sydney side that has won eight of its past nine games.
In further good news for the GIANTS, gun midfielder Stephen Coniglio looks to be close to a return from his second serious ankle injury.
The vice-captain, who has played just two games in 2017, trained with the main group and did some extra fitness work after the session with GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce, and will likely be ready to play within the next fortnight.
Coniglio suffered a syndesmosis injury during the GIANTS’ last JLT Community Series match against North Melbourne in Canberra, then hurt the same ankle against Collingwood in just his second game back in round eight, and required surgery.
