Speaking after Tom Boyd was traded to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for Ryan Griffen, Patton said he saw a long-term future at the GIANTS.
“Why would I want to go home? I love Sydney and I think we’ve got the best young team in the land so if I want to enjoy my footy career and win a premiership then my best hope is to be in Sydney,” Patton told Triple M.
“I think our club will back myself, Jeremy (Cameron), Devon Smith, Adam Tomlinson, Will Hoskin-Elliott – and that’s just talking about our forward line.”
Patton denied Boyd’s defection to the Western Bulldogs during the AFL trade period would lead to other players leaving in the coming years. He admitted that he laughed when he first heard about Boyd’s seven year contract with the Bulldogs.
“It’s a big contract. Good on him, but I think, you know, good luck to the Bulldogs and I think they’ve got to play us in the coming years,” he said.
“I think everyone up at the Giants knows what we’re building and if you’re not a part of it then you can leave,” Patton said.
“It depends what you want out of football and what you play for.”
Patton, who continues rehabilitation from his second knee reconstruction, recently signed a two-year contract extension that will see remain at the GIANTS until at least the end of 2017.
