11 GIANTS AFL Women’s players have been in action over the weekend, fresh from the opening weekend of the Women’s Winter Series.
Jacinda Barclay had a day out for UNSW-ES Bulldogs as they hammered the Western Wolves by 65 points at Picken Oval on Saturday. The tough forward kicked three goals in the win and was named third best on ground for the reigning premiers.
A defender for the GIANTS, Ellie Brush has found herself playing a key role for Macquarie University as a forward/ midfielder in recent weeks. Brush kicked a goal and was hard at the footy throughout a tough 32 point win over the UTS Shamrocks at Waverly Oval. Brush was named third best for the Warriors who remain undefeated in 2018.
Erin McKinnon kicked a goal as her Sydney University Bombers fell to Southern Power on Saturday. The ruck battled hard but the Power ran out winners by 18 points in perfect conditions at Sydney University Oval.

Britt Tully was again named best on ground for the Gungahlin Jets on Sunday, marking her sixth consecutive best on ground performance this season. Despite her efforts, inaccuracy ultimately cost the Jets as they kicked 11 behinds in their 23 point loss to the Belconnen Magpies.
VFLW
Midfielder Emma Swanson has continued her solid form for NT Thunder in the VFLW competition. The West Australian picked up 16 disposals in their 36 point win over Carlton as the Thunder remain undefeated after five matches.
2017 Trainor Medallist Jess Dal Pos was tackle happy in Darebin’s 15 point loss to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium. Dal Pos laid eight tackles and collected 13 disposals in just her second game back since the end of the 2018 AFL Women’s competition.
Rebecca Beeson and Pepa Randall were both named in Hawthorn’s best in their 33 point win over the Southern Saints on Sunday. Beeson, playing in her second game as a Hawk, found plenty of the footy down forward, while Randall had a rare game playing in the midfield.
Three GIANTS played key roles in Richmond’s win over Melbourne University on Sunday. New recruit Christina Bernardi kicked a goal and was named sixth best on ground in her first game since the end of the 2018 AFLW season, while fellow forward Louise Stephenson was again named amongst the Tigers best in their 29 point win.
Phoebe Monahan also found plenty of the footy as the defender continued on from her strong showing in the Women’s Winter Series a fortnight ago.
