Wet weather rounds occur sporadically throughout the season for both competitions, allowing fixtures that have been cancelled due to bad weather or poor ground conditions to be played on these otherwise ‘general bye weekends’.
UNSW Canberra 1st Grade Women’s
In the last Women’s Footy Wrap we reported that Britt Tully had started the season in excellent form and we’re pleased to say that form has continued with the midfielder named best on ground for Gungahlin in their round four loss to Hannah Dunn’s Queanbeyan.
Tully was tireless in the Jets’ 48 point loss that saw Dunn named as the Tigers’
Meanwhile, former GIANT Hannah Wallett has also continued her strong form for the Belconnen Magpies, kicking four goals in their win over Eastlake.
Wallett, who played four games for the GIANTS in their inaugural AFL Women’s season, has kicked 12 goals in three games so far in 2018.
AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division
With the wet weather round over the past weekend, only one round of AFL Sydney Women’s Premier Division has been played since the last Women’s Footy Wrap.
Pippa Smyth’s Macquarie University Warriors have continued their undefeated run, beating Southern Power by 39 points at University Oval.
Phoebe Monahan was named second best on ground for UNSW-ES Bulldogs in their thrilling
In just her second game for the year, Monahan was impressive against a strong Sydney University side featuring GIANTS Nicola Barr and Erin McKinnon.
Barr was named second best on ground for the Students while McKinnon played periods of the game as a forward.
Rebecca Privitelli was unable to play Premier Division due to the Bulldogs having reached their player-points limit and was forced to play in Division One.
Privitelli was unstoppable kicking seven goals in a 121 point win over Sydney University.
Meanwhile, Melissa Freckleton’s Western Wolves recorded a win against former GIANT Codie Briggs’ Newtown Breakaways, breaking a
Finally Renee Tomkins was named amongst Auburn-Penrith’s best on ground, playing in the ruck during the GIANTS’ seven point win over the UTS Shamrocks.
VFLW
After an impressive start to her season with the NT Thunder with a near best on ground performance in round one, Emma Swanson helped her side to a commanding 72 point win over Essendon at TIO Stadium on Saturday.
Swanson kicked two goals and collected 19 disposals in the round three win, with her side having had a bye in round two.
Fellow GIANT Renee Forth was also impressive on Saturday in her debut for the newly formed side, kicking a goal, racking up 18 touches and being named fifth best.
The match pitted Swanson and Forth against fellow GIANT Maddy Collier who was named fifth best for the Bombers in a disappointing result for the club.
It was Collier’s second game for the Bombers after she made her debut in round two, collecting eight disposals. Meanwhile, Tait Mackrill missed the trip to the top end with the midfielder having performed well in the opening two rounds for the Bombers, collecting 12 disposals in round two.
The game had an added GIANTS connection with co-captain Callan Ward’s twin sister Aysha Ward making her Essendon debut collecting four disposals.
After making her AFL Sydney debut for Sydney University three weeks ago, Louise Stephenson has been in fine form for Richmond.
The utility has been named in the Tigers’ best in both of her games, which have both been defeats.
Phoebe Monahan took full advantage of the AFL Sydney's wet weather round to line up alongside Stephenson on Saturday.
Former GIANT Ella Ross has also been playing for Richmond and kicked a goal in their 43 point loss to Collingwood on Sunday.
Lastly, defender Pepa Randall and forward Phoebe McWilliams both missed Hawthorn’s round three win over Carlton.
McWilliams was impressive in the Hawks’
