Round 17, 2015
The GIANTS had been in good form during the early rounds of 2015 and, by the time they faced Geelong in round 17, they were sitting inside the top eight. The GIANTS were battling injuries with Shane Mumford and co-captain Phil Davis both out with
Geelong, on the other hand, were outside the eight but still stood a chance to make it into a finals position.
14,667 people packed into UNSW Canberra Oval and witnessed the Cats jump the GIANTS in the first term. Geelong led from start to finish, but not before the GIANTS could draw within 16 points at the final break.
Five goals to Tom Hawkins was the difference in a low scoring affair with Stephen Motlop taking home the three Brownlow votes in the 27 point win.
Round 2, 2016
After being beaten by Melbourne in round one, the GIANTS headed to UNSW Canberra Oval looking to get their season started. They were also looking to beat Geelong for the first time ever, and with the help of new recruit Steve Johnson they would.
Johnson kicked two goals against his former club while another former Cat, Shane Mumford, flattened Mitch Duncan with one of the most memorable tackles ever laid in the nation’s capital.
The crowd of 13,656 were treated to a great tussle that included one of the marks of the year from young GIANT Will Hoskin-Elliot and a goal-of-the-year contender from Geelong’s Tom Hawkins.
The Cats finished strongly in the last quarter but couldn’t reel in the GIANTS, who won by 13 points.
Round 19, 2016
The GIANTS were on a roll by the time they took on Richmond at UNSW Canberra Oval in round 19.
Sitting in
A record crowd of 14,974 crammed into UNSW Canberra Oval and were treated to the Orange Tsunami at its devastating best.
The game was all but over by quarter time with the GIANTS keeping Richmond goalless, while slamming on eight of their own.
Stephen Coniglio was sublime, collecting the three Brownlow Medal votes for the performance at season’s end, while Toby Greene, Steve Johnson and Sam Reid all bagged three goals in the 88 point win.
Richmond’s paltry total of 3.5 (23) is still the lowest score conceded by the GIANTS.
Round 6, 2017
UNSW Canberra Oval hosted the GIANTS’ first-ever Friday night fixture and one of the most memorable matches of the 2017 season.
The game pitted the GIANTS against the reigning premiers the Western Bulldogs in what also shaped as a preliminary final rematch.
The 2016 preliminary final at Spotless Stadium was considered one of the best finals ever and the rematch nearly matched that.

With the mercury hitting as low as four degrees during the match, a crowd of 14,048 were treated to an epic finish.
Marcus Bontempelli kicked the opening goal of the final term before the GIANTS kicked the next three to open a 10 point lead. Jon Patton’s incredible set shot from 55m out, tucked up on the boundary, was the most memorable of the lot.
A late Jake Stringer goal led to a tense final five minutes as the Bulldogs worked the ball forward, however, despite a late shot on goal by the Dogs, the GIANTS hung on to win by two points.
Round 20, 2017
14,274 people piled through the gates at UNSW Canberra Oval for the GIANTS’ final game in Canberra for 2017. Heading towards their second-successive finals series, the GIANTS
The home side looked in trouble early as Melbourne piled on three goals in the opening eight minutes, but they hit back to slam on the next eight goals and open a 36 point lead at quarter-time.
