The GIANTS have moved up the draft order to the pick 11 as well as receiving pick 19 from the Fremantle Dockers in exchange for ruckman Rory Lobb.
The Dockers have on-traded pick 11 - acquired from Port Adelaide - to the GIANTS while also providing the GIANTS with pick 19, while the GIANTS have sent back 14, 43 and 47 in an exchange that sees the AFL’s youngest club extremely well placed for the forthcoming 2018 NAB AFL Draft.
The trade was part of a "mega deal" that unfolded on the final day of the NAB AFL Trade Period. The Dockers received pick 19 from the Brisbane Lions as part of a deal which saw Lachie Neale become a Lion.
Earlier, the Lions exchanged a future first round pick to the Gold Coast Suns for pick 19, a future second round and a future third round pick.
Following the conclusion of the 2018 AFL season, Lobb expressed a desire to return to his home state of Western Australia with the GIANTS agreeing to explore potential trade opportunities.
With Fremantle offering up an extra first-round selection for Lobb, who was out of contract in Western Sydney at the end of next season, the GIANTS are pleased to have secured such a strong trade.
GIANTS List Manager Jason McCartney said: “We wish Rory all the best for his future career at the Dockers.
“He’s been a valuable member of the GIANTS’ group over the past five years but we understand his desire to return to Western Australia.
“With the upgrade of pick 11 in addition to pick 19, we are able to strengthen our hand at the upcoming NAB AFL Draft to bring in some quality talent to complement our list. This is a strong result for our club.”
Arriving at the GIANTS as a mature-age raw ruckman, the 25-year-old played 64 games across five seasons after being selected at pick 29 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
The GIANTS now hold picks 11, 19, 25, 52 and 89 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft, as well as a future second-round selection (tied to Carlton) and a fourth-round selection (tied to the Gold Coast).
