GIANTS Netball
It’ll be the second meeting between the two sides in seven days after the GIANTS won the Minor Premiership and earned the right to host the Major Semi-Final with a three-goal win over the West Australians at the International Convention Centre in Sydney last Saturday.
A win will see the GIANTS progress directly to their second successive Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final after they finished runners-up to the Sunshine Coast Lightning last year.
The match sees GIANTS head coach Julie Fitzgerald enter her 20th finals campaign.
“I’m really excited this is what you play for, you want to be in finals,” she said.
“I love this time of the year, it’s where you want to be and we’re working very hard to make the most of it.”
Fitzgerald said she was rapt her side managed to clinch the minor premiership in the final game of the season.
“We sat in that second or third spot all year and worked very hard to ensure we were still in touch and that we were still a chance of finishing minor premiers,” she said.
“So definitely there was a real level of achievement in that we’d managed to do that.
“We were obviously disappointed with the last quarter (against the Fever) but by the same token we had to win the game.”
Meanwhile, Sam Poolman told GIANTS Netball TV that clinching a home final was crucial.
“It’s so important that we’re playing a home final, it’s a huge advantage for us,” she said.
“We don’t have to travel, we’re here in Sydney and we get to play in front of all our family, and friends and fans which is something that is really special to us at GIANTS Netball.”
