GIANTS coach Leon Cameron has lauded the character of star forward Jeremy Cameron after his six-goal effort helped sink Gold Coast on Saturday night.
Cameron torched the Suns with his half a dozen majors all coming after quarter-time in the GIANTS' 108-point thrashing.
The 25-year-old was brilliant and finished the night with 6.3 from his 26 possessions, to go with nine marks, with five of those taken inside 50.
The gun goalkicker continued his run of form against Gold Coast – he has now booted 41 goals in 11 meetings with the Suns – but his coach was keen to talk more about Cameron's ability to play with a nagging toe injury than his goalscoring feats.
Cameron missed the GIANTS' round seven loss to Geelong and has struggled to train at times during the week, but now has 32 goals for the year.
"It's just extraordinary that he's only missed one game out of 12, he's as tough as any player I've seen," the coach said post-match.
"His preparation is difficult because of the challenges he has during the week, but we're just starting to have a couple of wins with him over the past couple of weeks.
"He trains here and there and four or five weeks ago he couldn't do what he wanted to do, but he'd get out there and crack in every week he's that tough.
"Even during those weeks when we were struggling he kept showing up and that’s a sign of a player that wants to do everything for the footy club, he's a beauty.
"Sometimes you cringe
The GIANTS have their mid-season bye next week before they head to Brisbane to take on the Lions in round 14.
Leon Cameron said he's pleased to head into what will be a tough second half of the season on the back of two straight wins after losing four on the trot.
"You could argue that we don't need the bye because we've hit a little bit of form, but our challenge is to come back and play a side that is hard to beat up in Brisbane," he said.
"We're making some progress but there's a lot of teams in really good form and a lot of teams we need to run down and catch.
"We understand that we have a really tough draw, but our boys are excited and really have an appetite to resurrect after that month we had.
"Where that leads to who knows."
