The GIANTS have named a strong team for their first VFL Women’s invitational game against Williamstown on Saturday.
10 of the GIANTS’ currently contracted AFL Women’s players will line up at Downer Oval in Williamstown, while a further five have played at AFLW level.
Meanwhile, seven players from New South Wales and the ACT will get their chance to press their draft claims.
Former GIANTS and Carlton forward Rebecca Privitelli, who currently plays at the UNSW-ES Bulldogs, is one player who’s especially looking forward to taking on the Seagulls.
The 24-year-old, who has kicked 10 goals in the AFL Sydney Premier Division Women’s competition this year, said she’s particularly excited to see how the un-capped players perform.
“I think we’re all excited to see the girls who have come out of the AFL Sydney competition and how they’ve progressed over the past couple of weeks,” she said.
“There’s obviously a lot of talent there and I think over the past 12 months in particular the AFLW competition has brought so many more girls to footy, which means that the talent base that we can pick from is continuing to grow.
“To watch those girls play is really exciting and the AFLW players, to get those girls back is great and I’m really looking forward to seeing where we stand against the Victorian clubs.”
After taking time away from playing at AFLW level at the end of the 2018 season during which she played one game, Privitelli is relishing being back at the GIANTS.
“I’m really excited to be back at a semi-professional level. It’s been a long time since I’ve had an environment like this,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to playing with the girls and seeing where my football is at now, compared to where it was this time last year.”
