With pick 71 in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, the GIANTS have selected GIANTS Academy ruckman Logan Smith.

The key details:

Name: Logan Smith

State: NSW/ACT
Drafted from: Allies | GIANTS Academy
Position: Ruck
Height: 204cm
Date of Birth: 24/09/2006

Bio: The GIANTS Academy product is considered one of the best two ruckmen in the Draft following a breakout season which saw him named in the under 18 All-Australian side after averaging 10.5 disposals (seven contested) and 21.5 hitouts for the Allies at the National Championships. Hailing from Canberra. Smith is a mobile ruckman whose weapons lie in his craft around stoppages and his ability to put the ball to his teammates’ advantage. As well as his impressive season at underage level, Smith showed his immense talent with strong performances at VFL level throughout the year as he featured in seven games for the GIANTS’ VFL side, which included having 19 disposals and five marks against the Swans in round 13. The young ruck also won an AFL Canberra First Grade premiership with Queanbeyan this season. Named the 2024 GIANTS Academy Player of the Year, Smith is an exciting prospect for the future and is a great addition to the club’s ruck stocks featuring Kieren Briggs and fellow youngster Nick Madden.

What GIANTS Head of Talent Adrian Caruso says: “Logan developed rapidly via the GIANTS Academy in the last 18 months. He was able to get some great exposure for the Allies this year and then played VFL in the back end of the year where he learnt plenty yet matched it with some quality ruckmen.”
