GIANTS midfielder Matt de Boer will miss eight weeks with a shoulder injury sustained in the club’s win over North Melbourne.

The renowned tagger was injured in a contest with ‘Roo Ben Cunnington halfway through the third quarter and was unable to play out the match.

Subsequent assessment has diagnosed de Boer with a fractured shoulder. After consultation with a surgeon, it was determined that the 29-year-old will not require surgery.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said:

“This is obviously disappointing for both Matt and the club, particularly after his stellar first half of the year.

“Matt will no doubt attack his rehab with the same dedication and diligence he shows towards all aspects of his football and we look forward to welcoming him back in the second half of the season.”

There were no other injuries to report out of the GIANTS’ AFL and NEAFL wins with both teams having a bye this weekend.

The GIANTS kick off round 15 with a Thursday night clash with Essendon at Marvel Stadium.
