The clubs have been announced, the players have been named and now the jumper has been unveiled for the GIANTS team in the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s competition.

The GIANTS will run out in a new look jumper in 2017 with the league partnering with Cotton On Group’s high-performance sportswear category COAR.

The jumper and apparel range for all eight AFLW teams was unveiled on Thursday morning in Melbourne with the event attended by GIANTS marquees Renee Forth and Emma Swanson and number one draft pick Nicola Barr.

Whilst keeping with the inaugural jumper design worn in the AFL by the GIANTS since 2012, the new design will see the AFL Women’s team create their own identity and forge their own history.

The innovative and progressive design sees the GIANTS orange logo sit prominently on a white background on the right hip with the top half of the jumper remaining orange.

The GIANTS worked closely with COAR and the AFL to come up with the design with marquee players Emma Swanson and Renee Forth also having input during design process.

The COAR apparel has been created by women for women, with the fit specifically designed to complement the female form and enhance player performance.

AFL General Manager Commercial Operations Darren Birch said the launch of the apparel for the 2017 NAB AFL Women’s competition was another milestone in the lead up to the first matches next year.

“We are entering a new and exciting stage in Australian sport and we needed an apparel supplier that represented and understood the needs of our new group of elite athletes and shared the AFL’s core values,” Mr Birch said.

“The Cotton On Group is an iconic global retailer that Australians know and trust.

“Like the AFL, its roots are innately Australian, it embraces innovation and prides itself on being ahead of the curve.

“This new partnership was a natural fit and we are delighted to be working together to bring a contemporary uniform for the emerging league.

“2017 heralds a new chapter in Australian Football and we didn’t just want to replicate the men’s uniform. It was important that we created a product the players felt authentically represented them on and off the field."

GIANTS marquee player Emma Swanson said the season feels a step closer now with the design revealed.

“I love the design and can’t wait to pull on the jumper and represent the GIANTS early next year,” said Swanson.

“Having input into the design for the inaugural season is something I’m really proud of as we go about creating our own identity and I think the design will be very popular with our fans.

“It’s been a surreal few months as the AFL Women’s competition has come together and the GIANTS take this exciting next step.

“With the jumper revealed today and training starting next Monday, it’s all coming together quickly and the playing group can’t wait to get started.”

Internationally renowned sports brand New Era also joins the inaugural AFL Women’s competition as the official headwear partner in 2017.

The AFL Women’s apparel is expected to be available online and in the GIANTS Team store early in 2017.
