The GIANTS continue to lock away their exciting young talent, with dashing defender Lachie Ash re-committing to the club until at least the end of the 2027 season.
Already contracted to the club until the end of 2025 after signing a two-year extension last year, Ash has penned a new deal for a further two years to keep him in orange and charcoal for the foreseeable future.
Drafted to the club with the number four pick in the 2019 draft, Ash has emerged as one of the competition’s best young rebounding defenders and an integral piece of the GIANTS’ future.
Ash’s signature comes on the back of a strong start to his 2024 campaign, with the 23-year-old speedster averaging 19.7 touches at 82 per cent disposal efficiency to go along with 6.2 marks and 367 metres gained per game across his 10 matches earlier this season.
After missing five rounds with a calf injury, Ash was a welcome return to the GIANTS’ backline on Saturday against the Swans where he finished with 20 touches at 85 per cent disposal efficiency to go along with eight marks and six rebound-50s in a strong return to action.
Ash’s signature is further great news for the GIANTS following the recent commitments from a host of teammates, with star full forward Jesse Hogan, All-Australian defender Sam Taylor and prized number one pick Aaron Cadman all recently inking new deals to remain GIANTS.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it is fantastic to lock away another of the club’s talented youngsters.
“Lachie was already contracted until the end of next year so to have him re-commit for a further two years is just fantastic for him and the club,” McCartney said.
“Lachie is in our Emerging Leaders group and has really developed into a key player in our side and one of the competition’s best young rebounding defenders.
“Lachie has shown to be an extremely damaging player for us and one that we see as a big piece of our future as we strive for the ultimate success.”
