Best Game

It’s hard to look past Shiel’s round 14 effort against Carlton at Spotless Stadium as his best performance of 2016.

The hard bodied midfielder polled three votes in the Brownlow Medal for his efforts that saw him collect a game-high 34 disposals, kick two goals, lay four tackles and win nine clearances.

Shiel was dominant in the GIANTS 62-point win and was nominated for the round’s goal of the year.

GIANT Moment

Shiel’s two goal of the year nominations were thrilling moments in 2016.

His first in round nine saw him collect a loose ball in the left forward pocket at the Northern end of Spotless Stadium.

Tight on the boundary line Shiel managed to keep the ball in play while bamboozling the Western Bulldogs defenders, before kicking the goal with a left foot checkside kick.

The 23-year-old’s second nomination came in round 14 against Carlton.

After receiving a handball from Callan Ward, Shiel danced past two Carlton defenders to cooly kick the goal from 40 meters out.

However, the two goals aren’t Shiel’s GIANT moment. A video of Shiel performing a “Razor Curl” from January that set the Internet alight takes the cake.

What to Expect in 2017

Dylan Shiel was outstanding in the GIANTS’ star-studded midfield in 2016 and was one of many GIANTS who lifted to an elite level in their breakthrough season.

It’s impossible to think of a GIANTS midfield without Shiel being a part of it, his strength and clean disposal a key cog of the midfield machine.

Expect Shiel to have a fast start to his 2017 season as was the case in 2016.

Groin soreness forced Shiel out of the GIANTS’ round 20 clash with the Gold Coast Suns and will certainly appreciate the post season break after a bruising season.
