GIANTS ruckman Shane Mumford has had his one-game ban for striking downgraded to a fine at the AFL Tribunal on Wednesday night.
Mumford was charged by the Match Review Officer on Monday after an incident in last Friday’s practice match against the Swans.
The incident was originally assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the head with the GIANTS arguing that the act was both not intentional and of insufficient force.
The Tribunal found Mumford guilty of striking, but agreed with the GIANTS’ legal counsel Adrian Anderson that it was careless rather than intentional, and downgraded the charge, resulting in a $3000 fine.
Mumford - who initially retired at the end of the 2017 season - will miss the opening two rounds of the season due to a club-imposed suspension and will be available for selection from round three.
