All you need to know as the GIANTS prepare for the history-making 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft to be held in Melbourne on Monday, December 16.
With the 2024 AFLW Trade period all over, the GIANTS now turn their attention to Monday’s Telstra AFLW Draft as they look to bolster their exciting young list with even more promising young talent.
The Draft Goes National!
History will be created on Monday night, with this year’s AFLW Draft the league's first ever fully national draft, with all nominees available to be selected by any of the 18 clubs.
While last year's draft allowed prospects to nominate for a national pool, the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft will be the first time in the competition's history that all players will be eligible to be drafted to any club across the country, regardless of their home state.
Previous drafts were state-based, meaning prospective players could choose to nominate within their home state and could only be drafted by the AFLW clubs within their state. This was due to the part-time nature of the competition, but an average 20 per cent increase in remuneration for AFLW draftees as well as the recent introduction of relocation allowances have paved the way for a fully national draft in 2024.
GIANTS Picks
It’s an exciting time for the GIANTS who head into the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft with picks 3, 21, 52, 65, 75, 93, 111, 129.
Possessing the third overall pick for a second straight year, the GIANTS will be hoping to reap the benefits of a fully national draft as they look to secure some more high-end talent similar to last year’s prized number three pick Kaitlyn Srhoj.
