The GIANTS are delighted to have secured exciting defender Eleanor Brown and emerging midfielder Taylah Levy as part of a four-way trade on day five of the 2024 AFLW Trade period.
In four-way trade involving the Adelaide Crows, Hawthorn, and Western Bulldogs the GIANTS have landed the incoming duo in return for pick 39 in this year’s Telstra AFLW Draft.
An athletic former top 10 draft pick who can match up well on different sized opponents, Eleanor Brown is a tall and versatile defender who possesses strong endurance and a great work rate.
Brown enjoyed a breakout 2021 season, earning a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination before backing that up with a runner-up finish in the 2022 Bulldogs’ Best and Fairest count.
The 24-year-old joins the GIANTS looking to return to the field after having not appeared at AFLW level since round 10, 2022 (S7) due to health reasons.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, welcomed Brown to the club.
“We’re delighted to welcome Eleanor to the GIANTS,” Zell said.
“As a former first-round pick we know the talent that she has and we’re excited to see Eleanor showcase that in orange and charcoal next season.
“With her strong athletic profile and her ability to match up on different sized forwards we are excited about what she can add to our backline next season.”
Former Crow Taylah Levy also lands at the GIANTS as part of the four-way deal which occurred on Monday afternoon.
The 165cm onballer joins the club after two seasons and 16 games with the Crows, including the club’s two finals matches this season.
A talented multi-sport junior, Levy put her AFLW aspirations on hold when she went to the USA to play college basketball for Cleveland State University in 2019.
Upon returning to her home state of South Australia in 2023, the former point guard signed with the Crows as a rookie and played three games in her first season.
Playing every game in the Crows’ 2024 campaign, the 23-year-old played a pivotal role as an inside-mid among a star-studded Adelaide midfield.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, echoed her welcoming comments to Levy also.
“We’re thrilled to have been able secure Taylah in this deal as well,” she said.
“Taylah comes from a strong high-performance background through both her time in the USA and in the AFLW thus far,” she said.
“She brings finals experience from her season with the Crows this year and we think with her fundamentals and ability to win contested ball she will add to our midfield group moving forward.”
The GIANTS will now head into next week’s Telstra AFLW Draft with picks 3, 21, 57, 65, 75, 93, 111, 129
