Greater Western Sydney GIANTS CEO David Matthews says the club is 'obliged' to consider luring Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin to the GIANTS when he is out of contract at the end of 2013.

Matthews told the Sunday Footy Show on Channel 9 that any AFL club would be thrilled to have the key forward on their list.

“I think every club in the competition would want Buddy Franklin. He’s the best forward in the competition. He certainly sells a lot of merchandise and memberships for Hawthorn," Matthews said.

“We haven’t made any set decision, we haven’t put any offer on the table. We’re certainly contemplating what the options might be."

With 18 months to fully establish the GIANTS list and identify gaps, Matthews said that the young club was now in a good position to consider approaching opposition players about their place at the GIANTS in 2014.

“Are the (gaps) in key defence? Is there a ruckman we need? Do we go for a key forward? All those things are being contemplated at the moment.

“Just because we haven’t really secured a big name player so far… it doesn’t mean we haven’t been looking closely at it.”
