The GIANTS are thrilled to announce that star defender Izzy Huntington has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Huntington’s signature will see the 25-year-old remain in orange and charcoal through until at least the end of the 2026 AFLW season.

Originally taken by the Western Bulldogs with the number one pick in the 2017 AFLW Draft, Huntington joined the GIANTS in 2022 looking for a fresh start after some horrid luck with injury which saw her suffer three separate ACL injuries.

After making her long-awaited debut for the GIANTS in round three of the 2023 season, Huntington has gone on to quickly establish herself as a key piece of coach Cam Bernasconi’s side.

Originally playing up forward in her new colours at the GIANTS, Huntington was moved into defence ahead of the 2024 season where she has emerged as one of the competition’s best key defenders in a brilliant campaign to date.

Possessing some of the best hands in the league, Huntington sits number one in the entire competition for both average marks (5.4 per game) and intercept marks (4), while sitting tied second in the AFLW for contested marks per game (1.6).

Huntington also sits third among all key defenders this season with an average of 12.2 disposals per game.

An All Australian and best and fairest winner for the Bulldogs back in 2020, the GIANTS are excited about Huntington’s 2024 form and what she can continue to produce this season and beyond following her new two-year deal.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, said Huntington’s new deal is fantastic news for the club.

“We’re thrilled to have Izzy remain with the club for at least another two seasons. We see her as a key piece of our future,” Zell said.

“Izzy’s brilliant transition into defence this year has been exciting to watch and to see her return to the field and playing at such a high level is a testament to her resilience and her determination.

“Izzy is someone we value extremely highly both on and off the field at the GIANTS and we can’t wait to see what she can contribute in what we see as an exciting future for our emerging group.”
