The GIANTS are delighted to have locked away two of their most exciting new faces, with draftees Kaitlyn Srhoj and Indigo Linde both penning new deals with the club.
Both taken in last year’s AFLW Draft, Linde will remain a GIANT through until at least the end of the 2025 NAB AFLW season after signing a one-year extension, while number three pick Srhoj will remain in orange and charcoal through until at least the end of 2027 after inking a three-year extension.
The new deals come following impressive pre-seasons for the talented teenagers as they look to break through for their AFLW debuts this upcoming season.
Srhoj, who recently revealed her excitement at testing herself against the best in the country, is part of a new-look GIANTS midfield this season where the 19-year-old will be aiming to bring her talents which saw her selected with the club’s first pick in last year’s draft.
Capable of playing as an inside midfielder or on the wing, Srhoj joined the GIANTS after starring for Peel Thunder in the WAFL over the last two years as well as from her dominant season for her home state Western Australia in the Under-18 National Championships last year.
Taken with pick 40 in last year’s draft, Linde also joins a fresh and exciting GIANTS midfield group for the 2024 season, with the Victorian looking to carry over her draft-year form which saw her help lead the Eastern Ranges to a runner-up finish in the 2023 Coates Talent League season.
Coming from a high-level swimming and athletics background, Linde is a strong 171cm winger who was also utilised as an inside-midfielder for the Ranges last year.
GIANTS AFLW coach Cam Bernasconi is thrilled to have Srhoj and Linde already re-commit to the club.
“We see Kaitlyn and Indi as key long-term pieces of the club and it's fantastic to have them already signed on beyond this season,” Bernasconi said.
“Both girls have really attacked their first pre-seasons with great intent and it’s exciting to see what they can add to our side this season and beyond.
“They’ve shown their talents on-field already, but they’ve also fit seamlessly into the culture we’ve built here at the GIANTS.
“To have both players sign extensions just a few months into their time at the club is a real testament to the environment the club has created and it gives the group a real boost as we prepare for a big 2024 season.”
Fresh off their new deals, Linde and Srhoj are in line for their first taste of AFLW action on Saturday when the GIANTS take on the Swans in Blacktown in an AFLW match simulation clash.
The GIANTS will kickstart their 2024 campaign with a huge round one clash with the Bulldogs in Canberra on Saturday, August 31.
