On Sunday the GIANTS will launch a special cause close to their hearts as they announce an incredible fundraising campaign to raise $30 million to build a brand-new children’s hospice in Western Sydney to help very sick babies and children.
Sparked by GIANTS legend Callan Ward and his wife Ruby through the heartbreaking story of Rio’s Legacy, the GIANTS will launch the fundraising campaign at half-time of Sunday’s game against Port Adelaide at ENGIE Stadium (formerly GIANTS Stadium).
Together with Rio’s Legacy and the Mounties Group, the GIANTS Foundation is extremely proud to announce the campaign to build the only Western Sydney facility to provide specialised respite and end of life care for babies and children – Mounties Care Cottage.
Rio's Legacy was created to assist children with life-limiting conditions and their families following the heartbreaking story of Rio Fowler who died in 2018 of a rare heat condition before the age of two.
“My wife Ruby and I were immediately touched after hearing the remarkable story of Rio’s Legacy,” Ward said.
“Family means everything to us and hearing Ryan’s story, we knew we wanted to do everything that we could to help realise Rio’s Legacy’s vision - bridging the gap in end-of-life facilities for sick children and their families.”
To assist in reaching the funds required to build a brand-new children’s hospice in Western Sydney, the GIANTS are using this year’s City2Surf (held on Sunday, August 11) as the key driver for this incredible $30m fundraising goal.
With the world’s largest fun run expected to soon reach its capacity, the GIANTS are calling on members of the Orange Army to assemble now and sign up to take on the 14km course to help us assist the lives of families and their children in our community.
“Rio’s Legacy and the GIANTS Foundation are calling on our community this upcoming City2Surf,” Ward said.
“Join our Orange Army as we run to help achieve this incredible fundraising ambition. Whether you want to walk, jog, or smash a personal best, sign up to the City2Surf with us to be part of something special.”
Make sure you're at the game on Sunday to celebrate the launch and look out at half-time for a special announcement on field. Get your tickets for Sunday’s match here.
