The GIANTS have received another draft pick as the club bids farewell to Rene Caris.
Caris departs for St Kilda in exchange for pick 52 in next week’s AFLW Draft.
The GIANTS will currently enter the 2023 AFLW Draft with picks 3, 43, 52, 63, and 73.
Caris returns home to Victoria following a brief stint with the GIANTS in which the 24-year-old played the final five games of the 2023 campaign after joining the team on the eve of the season.
Having previously played 12 games for Geelong between 2019-2022 after being drafted by the Cats with pick 35 in the 2018 AFLW Draft, Caris joined the GIANTS as a replacement player for injured youngster Meghan Gaffney following an excellent season playing for Collingwood in the VFL.
Caris made her GIANTS debut in round six against the West Coast Eagles and played out the remainder of the season.
GIANTS Executive General Manager-Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, said the club is pleased to add another draft selection ahead of Monday’s AFLW Draft.
“While we’d clearly prefer to keep all of our players, circumstances dictate otherwise and we're thrilled to secure a fantastic outcome for the GIANTS with another draft pick,” Harvey said.
“We worked with the Saints to secure a suitable trade and we’re excited to add to our draft hand ahead of Monday’s Draft to continue to build on what we see as a successful list for the future.
“I’d like to thank Rene for her contribution to the GIANTS since joining the club on the cusp of the season.
“Not only did Rene add value on the field but off the field she was a popular member of the playing group and the GIANTS wish her all the very best for the future.”
The 2023 AFLW Draft will be held on Monday, December 18 and broadcast on afl.com.au.
