Young guns Zarlie Goldsworthy and Tarni Evans have been recognised among the best young talent in the competition, named in the AFLPA’s 22Under22 extended squad, presented by Local Expert.

Goldsworthy – who also received a Rising Star Nomination in round two – made history in round eight, becoming the youngest player to kick five goals in an AFLW game.

The 18-year-old finished the 2023 season with 13 goals while averaging 18.3 disposals, 6.6 tackles and 2.1 clearances from her 10 games.

In her second season, this marks Goldsworthy’s first time named in the 44-player squad.

It’s the second time Evans has been included on the extended list, backing up last year’s inclusion in the final team of 22.

The 21-year-old was this season elevated to the GIANTS’ leadership group and continued to lead by example on the field.

The core defender led the competition for rebound 50’s (6.4 per game), while averaging 16.3 disposals and 5.7 intercept possessions.

The fan-voted concept recognises the league’s best young players aged 22 and under who have made an impact on their club and the competition.

For a player to be eligible for the squad of 44, they are required to play 50 percent of the season games, equating to five matches for the 2023 season.

Voting for the final team is now open and will remain open until November, 15. The final team will be announced via the AFLW Players’ Association social media channels on November, 22.
