Star midfielder and GIANTS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio is set to return from an eye injury for Saturday’s cut-throat semi-final at Adelaide Oval.
One of the club’s most important players, Coniglio has been in career-best form and played every game this season before being a late withdrawal from the GIANTS’ elimination final win over the Saints.
Coniglio suffered an injury to his eye at training, leaving him with blurred vision which failed to resolve adequately by game day. The club’s medical team ruled him out of the game on Saturday morning to avoid further risk of injury.
GIANTS Head of Medical, James Rahme, said Coniglio is expected to line up at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
“Unfortunately, Stephen got hit in the eye at training last week,” he said.
“Given the nature of these injuries, and that he was still having some issues with his eye, we opted to be cautious and rule him out of last week’s game.
“He’s progressing well and is on track to play this coming weekend.”
The GIANTS take on Port Adelaide in a semi-final on Saturday, September 16 at Adelaide Oval.
