GIANTS star forward Jeremy Cameron has visited his old primary school in his home town of Dartmoor in western Victoria.

The 19 students of Dartmoor Primary School erected a sign at the front of the schoolyard during the 2013 season to keep tally of the number of goals Cameron kicked. They adjusted the figure every week as the 20-year old kicked 62 goals to finish the year in third place in the Coleman Medal.

In just his second season in the AFL, Cameron won the Kevin Sheedy Medal as the GIANTS’ Best and Fairest for the 2013 season. He also became the first GIANTS player to be named in the All Australian team and set the club record for most goals in a match, kicking seven goals against Collingwood at the MCG in Round 18.

Cameron’s young cousin Justin still attends Dartmoor Primary School and the students were clearly thrilled with the visit from Cameron during his off-season. Principal Hayden Milich said Cameron’s visit was as an inspiration to the students, and a great way for the kids to connect with a former student excelling on the national stage.

“We’re all so proud of what Jeremy has achieved this year and it’s wonderful that he’s taken time out of his holidays to visit our students. The kids worked hard to make this tally board happen and it’s had a real impact on the town with lots of people stopping by to check it out and take photos,” he said.

“The students love following the GIANTS, and Jeremy is a great example for the students that anything is possible."

Cameron, and the majority of the GIANTS players, will return for pre-season training this Wednesday.
