Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Co-Captain Phil Davis has said that while the young side is disappointed with Sunday’s loss, their sights are firmly set on the second Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

Davis spoke exclusively to GIANTS TV today and claimed that the young GIANTS would be bolstered by the on-field experience that they have had since they first faced the Swans in March this year.

“Obviously it wasn’t the result that we were after, we played well in patches,” Davis said.

“I thought it was probably our best first quarter but the second and third quarter were just not good enough.

“There are always a few positives to take out of the match but to lose by 70 odd points is extremely disappointing.

“We are coming in to Derby Two against the Sydney Swans, playing against them in Round 1 we put in a good performance.

“This is Round 14 coming up so a lot of our young guys have played 5-10 matches, which is a lot more than the zero that they had played before Round 1.

“To counter that, Sydney have been playing some very good football and have beaten some really good sides in recent weeks.”

The key defender said that the GIANTS back line would have their work cut out for them on Saturday, with a number of talented talls producing goals in the Swan’s forward line in recent weeks.

“They played four tall forwards last week.

“Sam Reid is a great young player, you’ve got Adam Goodes, Shane Mumford, Mike Pyke and Lewis Roberts-Tompson all go through there so we’ll be doing a lot of homework this week on their talls and how they bring the ball in to their forward line.

“As a backline and as a team in general we’ll have our hands full this weekend.”

Davis thanked the GIANTS fans for their support so far in 2012 and urged the orange army to get to ANZ Stadium on Saturday night and spur them on.

“Our supporters have been fantastic all year… we love seeing the orange there, it really stands out and spurs the team on, hopefully it can spur us to a victory this Saturday night.”
