Tough midfielder Jacob Wehr will be sidelined for three months after scans on Monday revealing a broken shoulder.

The 24-year-old was subbed out of the GIANTS’ 19-point loss at Optus Stadium in the second quarter with an AC joint injury, with subsequent scans revealing a broken scapula.

GIANTS Head of Medical James Rahme said the club is disappointed for Wehr.

“It’s an unfortunate injury for Jacob, who is as tough as they come,” he said.

“He put his head over the ball in a tough contest but unfortunately came away with a broken scapula. He won’t require surgery but he will be sidelined for a few months.”

The GIANTS are expecting vice-captain Josh Kelly and star half-back Lachie Whitfield to be available for Saturday’s clash with Carlton at GIANTS Stadium.

The pair suffered concussions in round one but have progressed well through the protocols so far.

“At this stage we expect both Josh and Lachie to be available for Saturday’s game,” Rahme said.

“They’ve ticked off everything required of them in the protocols so far and are feeling good but still have a few final steps before they’re ready to line up on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, young draftee Darcy Jones has returned to full team training following a quad injury sustained during the final stages of the pre-season.

Ruck Braydon Preuss is expected to return in approximately two months after being assessed following a minor procedure on his back.

In the VFL, VFL listed player James White has been cleared of serious injury to his neck after being taken to hospital during the match on Sunday. White was taken to hospital as a precaution and discharged on Sunday evening.

The GIANTS take on Carlton at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday at 4:35pm.
