The GIANTS have thanked midfielder Emily Goodsir for her contribution to the club after confirming she hasn’t been offered a contract for the 2023 season.
Goodsir was local draft pick in the 2019 AFLW Draft, drafted from the East Coast Eagles in the AFL Sydney Women’s competition.
The hard-bodied midfielder made her debut in the GIANTS’ historic round six win against the Adelaide Crows in 2020, with the win qualifying the side for their first-ever finals appearance.
She played 10 games across season 2020 and 2021 before moving onto the inactive list ahead of the birth of her son in early 2022.
The 30-year-old made an inspirational return to the game seven months after welcoming son Cruz, returning from the inactive list to play in the GIANTS’ round six match in season seven.
Goodsir played the remaining four games for the GIANTS to take her games tally to 15 across her AFLW career.
GIANTS’ Head of Women’s Football, Briana Harvey, paid tribute to Goodsir.
“We thank Em for her contribution to the GIANTS over the past several seasons,” she said.
“She fought her way onto our list from the AFL Sydney competition and had an outstanding 2021 season where she was a mainstay in the midfield. Her return this season, after the birth of Cruz, was an incredible effort.
“Given the number of players we have returning from the inactive list for season eight, we had to make the tough decision that Em wouldn’t be offered a contract this season.
“We wish her, husband Tom and son Cruz all the best with their next chapter.”
Goodsir joins Georgia Fowler (delisted), Casidhe Simmons (delisted), Tanya Hetherington (retirement) and Brid Stack (retirement) in departures from the GIANTS’ list ahead of season eight.
