Former AFL player and Vic Metro coach Jason Davenport has been named as the GIANTS’ new Head of Development.

Davenport, who won a VFL premiership and best-and-fairest with Geelong and played 28 AFL matches with Port Adelaide, was a development coach with Carlton for three seasons before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jason Davenport celebrates a goal during the Round 7 match between North Melbourne and Port Adelaide in 2009.

The 37-year-old then spent the last two seasons as coach of the Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro girls’ and boys’ teams in the NAB League (now the Coates Talent League).

GIANTS General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, welcomed Davenport to the GIANTS.

“We’re thrilled to appoint Jason as our new Head of Development,” McCartney said.

“As part of our reviews of the 2022 season, this was a new role that was identified as being critical to the continued development of our football program.

“Jason comes to us with a great resume and a wealth of experience working with the best young talent in the country and his remit will be to focus on the continued development of our players, particularly the first-to-fourth years.

“We’re excited to welcome Jason, wife Dustyn and daughters Clay and Paxton to Sydney and our GIANTS family.”
