Last Time They Met: The two sides last met in round four of season three in 2019 and it was the GIANTS who held on late to secure their first win of the season. The GIANTS had a strong start kicking four goals in the opening quarter, but managed just 1.4 for the remainder of the game to claim a 9-point win. The GIANTS led the inside 50’s, disposals and handballs, and the likes of Alicia Eva, Bec Besson and Cora Staunton were among the best.
Broadcast: The match will be broadcast live from 5:00pm on 7Mate in NSW and ACT, as well as Foxtel, Kayo and the Official AFLW App.
What it Means for the GIANTS: The GIANTS will be chasing back-to-back wins for the first time this season. The GIANTS secured their second win of the season last Saturday, with a four-goal performance and 17-point win over Carlton. After an inconsistent start to the season, the GIANTS are looking for more consistency in the back half of the season as they continue their young side continues to develop.
Where’s the Opposition At: The Pies currently sit in fourth position, among a tightly contested top eight. They earned their spot in the top four with five wins and one loss, but just one win separates them from the bottom half of the top eight. They come off a narrow two-point win over St Kilda but had the opportunity to be more damaging on the scoreboard, kicking 12-behinds for the day. The Pies have two players subject to test for this weekend, including co-captain Step Chiocci.
Player Watch: Georgia Garnett – the young forward played the game of an experienced campaigner last weekend, with a near career-best performance. Returning to the side following a week out with a hamstring injury, the 21-year-old picked up 17-disposals including 12-marks. In her new position in the forward line this season, Garnett is proving as a reliable target up forward.
In the Mix: Irish Defender Brid Stack missed last weekend’s match with calf awareness and will be subject to a fitness test ahead of a possible return this weekend. Em Goodsir was in the late replacement for Stack last round, but the returning Mum brought great impact and intensity to the young GIANTS side and would be expected to keep her spot.
