While the on-field rivalry between the GIANTS and Swans is on hold until round 21, both clubs will continue to spread the message of White Ribbon to stop violence against women.
The Swans defeated the GIANTS by 21 points in front of a crowd of 31,966 at the SCG on Saturday night to hold on to the White Ribbon Cup.
White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end violence against women.
Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said both clubs will continue to speak up about this important issue.
"The White Ribbon Cup is about much more than football,” said Matthews.
“Whilst the GIANTS and the Swans are intent on building our on-field rivalry, we are both equally committed to the White Ribbon cause.
“The recent incidents of domestic violence against women in our community are completely unacceptable, and the GIANTS strive to play a leading role in ending this behaviour.”
As White Ribbon ambassadors, co-captains Callan Ward and Phil Davis and assistant coach Luke Power recognise the importance of men taking responsibility and playing a leadership role in preventing men’s violence against women.
The White Ribbon Cup will next be contested on Saturday, August 22 when the GIANTS host the Swans at Spotless Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park.
