Initially, this was going to be a “GIANTS’ top five goalkicking performances” list, but, well … it was all Jeremy Cameron.
So what we ended up with instead is essentially a little Jeremy Cameron appreciation in the form of his five best outings in front of goal.
1) 7.3 vs Carlton, Round 22, 2015 at Spotless Stadium
GIANTS 20.12 (132)
Carlton 7.9 (51)
After a tight first half at home against Carlton, Cameron led the charge in front of goal as the GIANTS piled on 15 majors to the Blues’ three.
All seven of Cameron’s goals came in the second half, with three in the third term and four in the fourth.
2) 7.2 vs Gold Coast, Round 8, 2016 at Spotless Stadium
GIANTS 22.17 (149)
Gold Coast 9.4 (58)
There’s something about Gold Coast that brings out the best in Cameron. He averages nearly four goals a game against them, having booted 41 majors in 11 games.
At home in 2016, he equalled his own club record for most goals in a game with seven for an impressive fourth time as the GIANTS notched up a comfortable win.
3) 7.1 vs Collingwood, Round 18, 2013 (MCG)
Collingwood 15.16 (106)
GIANTS 10.6 (66)
In just his second season of AFL, Cameron had already established himself as one of the pre-eminent forwards in the league.
On the back of a 29-goal debut season, he booted 62 goals in 2013, with the biggest haul coming against Collingwood at the home of football. Remarkably, his form came in a season when the GIANTS won just one game, but as he showed against the Magpies, Cameron was a force to be reckoned with.
It was a close game until the final term, and Cameron helped his side to a brilliant start, kicking four of his goals in the first quarter.
4) 7.0 vs Hawthorn, Round 6, 2015 at Spotless Stadium
GIANTS 16.12 (108)
Hawthorn 14.14 (98)
2015 was a big year for Cameron, yielding 63 goals to place him second on the Coleman Medal ladder, and against reigning premier Hawthorn at home, he had his kicking boots on, slotting through seven goals straight.
His inspiring performance led the GIANTS to an upset 10-point win – a significant moment in the young club’s development and its first win over Hawthorn.
5) 6.3 vs Western Bulldogs, Round 1, 2018 at UNSW Canberra Oval and vs Gold Coast, Round 12, 2018, at Spotless Stadium
GIANTS 20.13 (133) Western Bulldogs 7.9 (51)
GIANTS 20.14 (134) Gold Coast 4.2 (26)
It’s no surprise that in the GIANTS’ two biggest wins of the 2018 season, spearhead Cameron has been front and centre on the scoreboard.
He starred as the GIANTS started the season with an emphatic win over the Western Bulldogs at UNSW Canberra Oval, also collecting 18 disposals and nine marks in the dominant performance.
Cameron mirrored his personal score line in round 12 as the GIANTS posted their biggest win in the club’s history, a 108-point belting of Gold Coast Suns. He also collected 26 disposals – a personal best.
Cameron, who has been managing his workload around an injured toe, looked to be back to his damaging best, and his six-goal haul saw him move to second place on the Coleman Medal leaderboard with 32 goals for the season to date.
