The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS and the Sydney Swans will go head-to-head for the White Ribbon Cup at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday 14 July.
This is the second installment of the White Ribbon Cup for 2013. The first was held on Easter Saturday at ANZ Stadium, from which the Sydney Swans emerged victorious.
This match will decide whether the Sydney Swans get to keep the White Ribbon Cup, or pass it on to the GWS GIANTS for the first time.
Despite the on-field competition, the teams have united in support of White Ribbon; Australia’s only national, male-led primary prevention campaign to end violence against women.
The winner will be presented with the White Ribbon Cup by White Ribbon Ambassador and Executive Chair of the Australian Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, Warren Mundine.
White Ribbon Australia CEO, Libby Davies thanked the AFL for being a longstanding supporter and partner of the organisation.
“Their commitment has been and continues to be demonstrated by the many AFL managers and players who have signed up to our Ambassador Program, and is also reflected through the AFL’s own respect and responsibility programs,” Ms Davies said.
“Don’t stay silent about violence. As fans you can also get behind your team and show your support by purchasing a white ribbon for $2 from one of our friendly staff or volunteers who will be on-site before the game.”
