As round one of the AFL season fast approaches, another football season comes to an end.

The NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams will face off in Super Bowl LVI today, and while GIANTS fans are busy counting down the days until the AFL season begins on March 19 against the Swans, there are a few GIANTS players who have been eagerly awaiting today.

With a strong NFL following amongst the GIANTS playing group, we asked a few of them who their picks are for Super Bowl 2022 and spoke to Josh Kelly about how it all came about.

“I started following the NFL pretty closely because I was a big Odell [Beckham Jr.] fan when he first started playing for the New York Giants, so I started following the Giants in the NFL because of that, but also from watching Tom Brady from afar – I’m a huge Tom Brady fan,” Kelly shared.

“From there I got into a few fantasy comps and learnt all the players, and now we’ve got a GIANTS NFL fantasy competition with a bunch of the guys at the club which has been going for about three seasons now.

“Our original GM of the comp was former GIANTS Assistant Coach Luke Kelly. He runs a very tight ship for NFL Fantasy, so we have a few things in place to keep that going and it’s a good little community we’ve got now.

“Jack Buckley was the winner this year. He went all-in trading draft picks and stacked up to get his team looking pretty good, and it ended up paying off for him.”

Despite the occasion, it remains business as usual for the GIANTS who are less than two weeks after from their first pre-season hit out, but Kelly admits they will still be finding some time to catch the game.

“Because we’ve got such a big NFL following amongst the group, we usually try to find two hours in the afternoon to not put any rotations in so that we can watch the game.

“We’ll get everyone together to watch and it’ll be super exciting.”

The GIANTS will play a practice match against the Swans in Albury on February 25 before an AAMI Community Series match-up with Collingwood at GIANTS Stadium on March 6.

The GIANTS open their season with a blockbuster Sydney Derby against the Swans at Accor Stadium on March 19.
