Speedy forward Ian Hill has become a GIANT.
The 18-year-old Western Australia was selected by the GIANTS with pick 24 of the 2018 NAB AFL Draft at Marvel Stadium on Friday morning.
Hill’s pace is one of the highlights of his game (he has run the 20m sprint in 2.82 seconds), while his incredible leap allows him to take big marks.
Clever around goal, Hill can also play as an outside midfielder like his cousins Stephen and Bradley Hill who run along the wings for Fremantle.
GIANTS National Recruiting Manager Adrian Caruso said:
“Ian is an enormously talented small forward who plays with real speed and X-factor,” he said.
“Creative with the ball and a threat near goal or up high, we feel in the modern game he can really open things up for us.”
The GIANTS used live trading for the first time – sending pick 28 and a future second round pick to Adelaide in exchange for pick 24 and a future fifth round pick – to nab Hill.
“We’ve followed Ian’s journey and given the quality and types of players we brought in last night, we prioritised trading up to get Ian based on where we ranked him in our talent order,” Caruso said.
“It’s rare to find a player with the special qualities Ian possesses, hence why we moved up.”
