Former skipper Phil Davis has returned home to Sydney after being ruled out of the remainder of the season.
Davis has been sidelined with bone bruising in his right knee that he has been managing since he injured both knees in round 10.
Davis missed two matches following round 10 with a medial ligament strain in his opposite knee and while that injury has healed, the bone bruising in his right knee has caused him to be unable to train.
A scan last week has shown that at least eight weeks of rest will be required to manage the injury, which rules Davis out of the remainder of the season.
“Phil has been managing this injury but unfortunately it’s reached the point where only a long period of rest will fix the problem,” GIANTS General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said.
“With that in mind, it was decided that it’s in Phil’s best interests to return home to Sydney to be with his partner and family.
“Phil’s an incredibly important part of our line-up so it’s disappointing for us on-field but this is the best option to make sure he’s fully fit for the 2021 season.”
