GIANTS announce first Australia Post AFL Community Camp in Canberra

The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have reaffirmed their commitment to Canberra with the announcement they will hold the club’s first Australia Post AFL Community Camp in the nation’s capital on March 15-16.

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said the community camp was another exciting opportunity for the club and GIANTS fans in the ACT.

"Canberra is critical to the success of the GIANTS and we’re thrilled to be able to hold our club’s first ever Australia Post AFL Community Camp there," he said. "I want to acknowledge the AFL and Australia Post for making this happen and also thank the ACT Government for the partnership with the GIANTS in Canberra."

"It is a chance for the GIANTS to embrace the local community and for our players to meet the people of Canberra. For the first time, an AFL club will have real presence in Canberra and fans there can be assured they will see plenty of the GIANTS during 2012."

Matthews said more than 40 per cent of the GIANTS?2011 foundation members were from the ACT and the club looked forward to a long term partnership with the ACT Government to grow the game in Canberra.

"We’re also thrilled to bring three AFL matches to Manuka Oval in 2012, starting with the Western Bulldogs on April 28. We will also play the Gold Coast Suns and Melbourne in the nation’s capital and a NAB Cup match.

"With the UWS GIANTS also set to play in Canberra, we hope the NEAFL competition also continues to grow in the ACT," he said.

"Canberra is rich in AFL history and we are really looking forward to becoming part of the fabric of the local community for many years to come."
