It will be the battle of the AFL young guns tomorrow when the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS take on the Gold Coast SUNS in Round 7 of the AFL Premiership Season.

Manuka Oval in Canberra will host 15 young stars who were a part of the AIS AFL Academy program.

GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy said that this would be an exciting game for all of Australia to witness when the best young talent in the AFL battles it out for the first time.

“It’s hard to compare both teams. Obdviously they are 22 games ahead of us in some areas and in some areas they may or may not be.

“What makes this game so interesting on the weekend is that you’ve got the two youngest teams in the AFL facing each other, we are probably in the pram and they are probably pushing it. We just need to make sure that they don’t push it off the edge.

“When you look at who we’ve played so far we’ve had four of the top five teams so that’s been a baptism of fire.

“We are getting better by the minute and how many minutes that is this week, we will find out tomorrow.”

Sheedy was also excited about the GIANTS ruck stocks for tomorrow, with Tasmanian Andrew Phillips being elevated off the rookie list and on to the Senior list for tomorrow’s clash.

“The great thing about our ruck is that they are players that no one else wanted. Jonathan Giles and Andrew Phillips were both overlooked and now they are playing AFL."
