On the eve of the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS first game in the AFL competition, head coach Kevin Sheedy has warned critics not to underestimate his young team.

The GIANTS will run out for the first time tomorrow night in a team that inlcudes 17 AFL debutants equalling the record set by the Adelaide Crows in 1991.

Sheedy spoke to a massive media contingent at the squad’s final training session before the inaugural Sydney Derby at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night.

“We’ve had a pretty good lead up and the boys have enjoyed the games. It’s been a great experience for the players so they’ll be ready to play.

“They’ve got to bring their best game to the stadium tomorrow night.

“We’ve got every chance of winning. Anything can happen in this game.

“They (the Swans) are a good side they’ve been in the finals most of the last decade but they don’t know how to play us because they’ve never played us. That will be exciting and is a reason to come.

“Gee it would really shock you people if we won wouldn’t it?”

Sheedy spoke of the effort and emotion that has gone in to the build of the GIANTS and urged the Western Sydney community to support the club and it’s young playing group as they enter the AFL.

“It’s a historical two hours for the team.

“It’s also a big moment for a lot of people who have put a lot of work and effort in to building this club.

“The people of Western Sydney will really get to enjoy a player like Callan Ward. He plays with a lot of spirit and soul.”
