GIANTS recruit Bret Thornton today joined his new teammates on the training track for the first time at Skoda Stadium.

Senior Assistant Coach Leon Cameron said that Thornton had trained well with the group and would be great influence on his younger teammates.

"He's fitted in really well to our footy club. As we know he's got a lot of experience coming from Carlton. It's like he's part of the furniture straight away,” Cameron said.

"He'll play a role down in our defensive half of the ground but also he'll play a role in our forward half."

His former Carlton teammate Setanta O’hAilpin said Thornton was a great fit for the club and was sure he would settle in quickly.

"It's great to have him here. I'm delighted. He helped me throughout my career and it's great that we're back together again," he said.

"He'll add a lot of experience to the young group and his leadership is second to none. With all that put together I can see why the GIANTS picked him."
