The 2012 NAB AFL Rising Star will be awarded the Ron Evans Medal at Crown Palladium in Melbourne this afternoon.
A record eight Greater Western Sydney GIANTS players have been nominated for the award this year with Adam Treloar, Stephen Coniglio, Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene, Dylan Shiel, Tomas Bugg, Devon Smith and Dom Tyson all receiving nominations.
Nominee Adam Treloar said that the volume of nominations that the club has received is a great sign for the future of the young club.
“It just shows you the potential that the club has,” Treloar said.
“There’s a couple of other boys that have been unlucky like Taylor Adams and Adam Kennedy but it just shows you the exciting young list that we have and the big future that we have ahead of us.”
Treloar has tipped GIANTS forward Jeremy Cameron, who kicked 29 goals in his debut season to take out the award today.
“My tip is Jeremy Cameron who has had a great year but unfortunately missed the last few rounds with injury. I think Toby Greene would have won it if he was eligible but unfortunately he was suspended so he can’t win.
“Previous winners have gone on to have great careers and I think this is a great stepping stone for them. It’s really exciting,” Treloar said.
