Greater Western Sydney GIANTS Development Coach Brett Hand has a long history of developing young men into AFL footballers.
Hand spent many years as Head Coach of the Northern Territory Institute of Sport and now as the development coach at the GIANTS, he is excited with the group of players he has been working with.
Hand has a real love of coaching and developing skills in young players and this passion combined with a teaching background makes him the perfect man for the role.
2013 has seen a new crop of young players come to the GIANTS and it is Hand’s job to oversee the programs that each player has been given.
“We’ve got 35-40 players who are 20 years old and under, we work very closely as a group to ensure they’ve got development plans and individual areas and focuses to improve their game, their skills and their fitness,” Hand said from a pre season training session at Moore Park.
“With the eight players that have come in I’ve been really impressed by the way they have adapted to the club.”
“As a group of coaches we’re quite impressed by what they are doing,” Hand said.
One area the coaches have focused on this pre season has been skill acquisition, not only with the new players but with the whole playing group. The focus has been on everything from hand and foot skills to specific areas such as individual goal kicking routines.
