The GIANTS have achieved another first after last weekend’s opening round of the NAB Cup – they are in the top eight of an AFL competition for the first time.
The club’s first ever win over the Swans by 24 points at Blacktown International Sportspark ensured it is still in contention for a berth in the NAB Cup Grand Final on March 15/16.
This Saturday the GIANTS travel to Robertson Oval at Wagga Wagga where they will play their first ever NAB Cup game against the Brisbane Lions, who won their first two matches on the weekend.
Head Coach Kevin Sheedy the team was looking forward to playing in a city with a great sporting history including AFL.
“This is a region that has produced some outstanding athletes for this country and is now an important zone for the GIANTS,” he said. “We have a number of players from New South Wales and I’m looking forward to a number of them playing this weekend.
“This is a real opportunity for us as a club and we are looking forward to heading to Wagga and playing in front of a full house in what should be a really competitive match against Brisbane.
“Our win against the Swans last Sunday was a significant moment for this club and the NAB Cup is very important for us to help launch our year.”
