Co-captain Phil Davis is confident the team can build on Saturday’s record breaking 45-point win over Brisbane and deliver a match winning performance against Carlton at Spotless Stadium this Sunday.
Davis, who played his first game back since injuring his kidney in Round 1, believes the GIANTS are well positioned to win back to back games for the first time in the club’s history.
“We had a good win on the weekend at the GABBA and this weekend’s a great chance on Sunday at Spotless Stadium against Carlton to hopefully put in another good performance and really push for another victory,” he told the Big Sports Breakfast in Sydney.
“They’ve (Carlton) obviously been a little bit inconsistent this year, but their good is still very good.
“They pushed Hawthorn on Friday night and the week before that they were in the game as well so it’s going to be a challenge, but if we can deliver the performance we have for the past three weeks we’ll be very competitive and hopefully get a win,” he said.
Carlton sit in 12th position on the ladder, just one win ahead of the GIANTS who’ve climbed to 16th place and Davis is confident that the club has plenty to look forward to.
“Hopefully now if we build into this week and on top of that (the win), we’ve just got to continue to develop.
“We’ve got a lot of good players that aren’t in the side at the moment, that are playing in the seconds (UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL) who are still young and developing. If we all continue to improve, I have no doubt that we’ll have some very good results.
“It’s obviously a big game for us at Spotless on Sunday, so hopefully we’ll get a good crowd there and put in a good performance,” he said.
The GIANTS host Carlton at Spotless Stadium this Sunday, June 22 at 1.10pm. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.au.
