Kicking 26 goals this season, Devon Smith established himself as one of the best up-and-coming small forwards in the AFL.

Smith missed just one game through suspension and was selected in the AFL Players Association's 22 Under 22 side.

His best game was against Melbourne in Round 19 where he had a career high 31 touches, 10 marks, five tackles and two goals.

He also kicked a career-high five goals against St Kilda in Round 2 and four goals against Hawthorn in Round 11.

Smith also had a career-high 10 tackles against Hawthorn in Round 11 and a career-high 33 disposals against Essendon in Round 12.

Smith was one of the club’s first 21-year-old’s to reach the 50-game milestone when he and Adam Treloar played their 50th games against Carlton in Round 14.

Smith finished third on the GIANTS’ goal kicking leaderboard but kicked perhaps the club’s most important goal of the year when he nailed a shot from 50-metres out with 16 seconds on the clock to secure the GIANTS’ final-round win against the Bulldogs.

He finished equal-second with co-captain Callan Ward in the Kevin Sheedy Medal and also picked up the 2014 Cabcharge Coaches Award.

With 59 games, 52 goals and a third season under his belt, Smith is bullish about the GIANTS’ future.

“We’re the pioneers, we’ve been here from the start and we have seen the improvement in three years, even if sometimes it doesn’t look like that,” Smith told the Daily Telegraph last month.

“We can certainly see and feel the changes that have been made and at the end of the day we are still only 21.

“It’ll be quite scary with what we can do if we’re able to maintain these players for the next six years.”
